Once again we are delighted to welcome a number of film industry
speakers including directors, film historians and critics.
Gruff Rhys, from Super Furry Animals will introduce his film
Separado, described as a psychedelic western musical, a
quirky investigation into the music of Patagonia and the
Welsh communities of Argentina.

Screenwriter Alan Wightman will introduce his award winning short
horror film Bloodline as a taster to the main feature Dracula: Prince
of Darkness. [Event3]
Matthew Sweet, broadcaster and film historian has written
extensively on British film and has presented a number of television
series about film. He is a regular on the Film Programme on R4
as well as presenting R3’s Night Waves. He will introduce our
selection of seminal films from the 60s, discussing the impact and
importance of films from this decade of social upheaval. [Event 4]
On Sunday morning Matthew will be talking about his passion for
early British silent film and then screening two of his favourites.

Lucy Bailey and Andrew Thompson will be discussing their
award winning documentary Mugabe and the White African with
Francine Stock. A brave film shot under dangerous and difficult
circumstances in crisis ridden Zimbabwe. [Event 5]
Francine Stock will introduce a selection of short films curated by
Aradnha Tayal which will give us a chance to see work by several
British directors who have gone on to make major feature films.

Director and historian Kevin Brownlow will be in discussion with
author Owen Sheers whose locally-set novel Resistance starts
shooting this autumn in the Ochon Valley. Chaired by Francine
Stock they will be exploring their shared themes of an imaginary
wartime German occupation of Wales. [Event 7]
Justin Kerrigan will join Francine Stock in a Q&A after the showing
of his new semi autobiographical film, set in a bleak urban Wales, I
Know You Know. [Event 15] |
